Ferromagnetic GaN--Cr Nanowires.
Using first-principles theory, we predict ferromagnetism in Cr-doped GaN nanowires irrespective of the sites that the Cr atoms occupy. This is in contrast to Mn-doped GaN nanowires in which the magnetic coupling between the Mn atoms is sensitive to the Mn--Mn and Mn--N distances, although the ground state of Mn-doped GaN nanowires is ferromagnetic. Each Cr atom carries a magnetic moment of abou...
متن کاملMicrotubule shuttles on kinesin-coated glass micro-wire tracks.
Gliding of microtubule filaments on surfaces coated with the motor protein kinesin has potential applications for nano-scale devices. The ability to guide the gliding direction in three dimensions allows the fabrication of tracks of arbitrary geometry in space. Here, we achieve this by using kinesin-coated glass wires of micrometer diameter range. Unlike previous methods in which the guiding tr...
متن کاملFerromagnetic glass-coated microwires with good heating properties for magnetic hyperthermia
The heating properties of Fe71.7Si11B13.4Nb3Ni0.9 amorphous glass-coated microwires are explored for prospective applications in magnetic hyperthermia. We show that a single 5 mm long wire is able to produce a sufficient amount of heat, with the specific loss power (SLP) reaching a value as high as 521 W/g for an AC field of 700 Oe and a frequency of 310 kHz. The large SLP is attributed to the ...
متن کاملStability for Static Walls in Ferromagnetic Nanowires
The goal of this article is to analyze the time asymptotic stability of one dimensional Bloch walls in ferromagnetic materials. The equation involved in modelling such materials is the Landau-Lifchitz system which is non-linear and parabolic. We demonstrate that the equilibrium states called Bloch walls are asymptotically stable modulo a rotation and a translation transverse to the wall. The li...
